We Are Roberts Tower Company
Roberts Wireless Communications (RWC) Recognizing the emerging PCS
industry, Michael and Steven Roberts, through Roberts-Roberts & Associates, LLC,
acquired six C-Block licenses in Missouri: Cape Girardeau, Quincy-Hannibal,
Rolla, Sedalia, Jefferson City, and West Plains; and one F-Block license for
Columbia Missouri. In early 1998, the Roberts initiated discussions with Sprint
PCS in Kansas City to explore affiliation opportunities. During the course of
those discussions, several events occurred that fundamentally changed the
character of the PCS C-Block. In June of 1998, Roberts elected the FCC’s amnesty
option, returned their C-Block licenses and signed an affiliation agreement with
Sprint PCS creating Roberts Wireless Communications, LLC (RWC),.
RWC was tasked with building a Sprint PCS network, including switch and retail
facilities, to cover over 1.0 million residents in St Joseph, Sedalia, Lake of
the Ozarks, Joplin, Rolla, Springfield, Cape Girardeau, Poplar Bluff, Hannibal,
Kirksville, Jefferson City, and Columbia in Missouri, and Carbondale and Quincy
in Illinois. While in the process of building the network infrastructure,
Alamosa PCS, another Sprint PCS affiliate, approached RWC, to merge their
network facilities. On 2/14/01, the merger was ratified.
With the network facilities under the management of Alamosa, Michael and Steven
Roberts created a new venture, Roberts Tower Company (RTC), to manage the vast
cluster of towers throughout Missouri, Illinois, Oklahoma and Kansas. In
addition, they added their broadcast towers in Utah, New Mexico, Tennessee and
Missouri to the RTC roster.
